Choose a Desk Converter Through Its Whole Movement

Compare load, keyboard platform and clearance before adding a raised work surface.

A desk converter adds a moving structure on top of furniture already in use. Its closed footprint is not the complete requirement: equipment, controls and cables must work through the permitted movement. Begin with the exact desk and ordinary tasks rather than treating standing capability as a universal health or productivity improvement.

Record the full supported load

List the display, laptop, keyboard and other equipment the converter will carry. Read the converter's exact load limits and distribution instructions, and compare them with the underlying desk's permitted loading. A device that fits on the top does not automatically belong on a smaller keyboard platform. Leitz's official standing-desk and converter catalog distinguishes formats; the selected model's documentation, not the category name, governs the actual arrangement.

Model both lowered and raised states

Read the stated movement path and maximum dimensions, then mark the complete footprint relative to walls, shelves and other equipment. Some designs move outward as they rise; do not assume every mechanism travels straight up. Keep normal access to controls and the route away from the desk. Use paper measurements rather than a loaded improvised prototype. A converter must fit the real room in every permitted working state.

Keep screen and input together

Compare the usable top, keyboard platform and pointer space with the actual equipment and tasks. OSHA's workstation guidance addresses multiple components together rather than offering a blanket recommendation for one product. Read the operating and locking instructions and check whether adjustment is practical for the intended user through an appropriate assessment. This guide does not diagnose discomfort or promise that changing positions treats a condition.

Plan cables and alternative solutions

Measure cable routes through the documented range without tension, pinching or unsupported extensions. Check how the converter is cleaned and whether it can be moved as assembled. A different existing desk arrangement or a suitable full desk may serve the actual role more simply. Skip the converter if the underlying surface or movement clearance is uncertain. If buying, verify parts, regional return terms and exact model, retain assembly guidance and add extra mounts only when their compatibility and load are expressly supported.
