Choose Whiteboard Markers for the Exact Board Surface

Keep dry-wipe compatibility separate from permanent and specialist markers.

A marker that looks right can create the wrong result if it is not intended for the board surface. Begin with the board's care instructions and the exact marker type, then compare tip and colours. The useful purchase is a supported writing-and-removal system rather than a large assortment of vaguely labelled markers.

Read the board requirements

Identify the exact board or surface and its manufacturer's permitted writing and cleaning products. Do not assume a coated panel, glass board and ordinary whiteboard have identical requirements. A temporary writing task should not be assigned to a permanent marker based on cap colour or similar packaging. Resolve an unidentified surface before testing valuable or shared equipment. This guide does not supply a universal stain-removal method.

Identify the exact marker format

STAEDTLER's official whiteboard range separates several formats, including Lumocolor whiteboard pen 301 and larger markers. Use the selected product's intended surfaces and removal instructions rather than treating Lumocolor as one interchangeable ink family. A fine pen and broad board marker can serve different writing sizes. Read the active variant's colour and tip, and do not assume another pack with the same brand has the same intended use.

Match the room’s writing distance

Write a harmless sample at the normal board size through an appropriate permitted route. Consider how much information needs to fit and the usual viewing position without claiming universal legibility. A broad tip can fill the board quickly, while a very fine line may not serve a room overview. This site has not measured visibility, ink life or removal performance across products. Keep personal and room requirements explicit instead of ranking a tip as best for everyone.

Plan closure and maintenance

Read storage orientation, cap and any refill guidance for the exact marker. Keep compatible erasers and cleaners within the board maker's instructions; adding a strong chemical to fix a mismatch is not a shopping solution. Skip another large pack when the current suitable colours cover the maintained task. If buying, verify delivered ink type and tip, retain the board-and-marker references and choose replacement colours from actual use. Permanent markers should be identified and stored distinctly so an accidental substitution does not undermine the whole setup.
