ScanSnap Carrier Sheets and Photo Carrier Sheets have similar names but different documented model lists. A supported accessory for folded paper is not automatically the appropriate photograph accessory for the same scanner. Begin with the scanner model and the type of original, then look up the corresponding sheet. Shopping by sleeve appearance alone leaves both questions unresolved.
Compare the two support lists directly
PFU's standard Carrier Sheet FAQ lists iX2500, iX2400, iX1600, iX1500, iX1400, iX500, iX100, S1100i and S1100. Its separate photograph FAQ lists Photo Carrier Sheet support for iX2500, iX2400, iX1600, iX1400, iX1300 and iX1500. These are the reviewed manufacturer lists, not a claim that every ScanSnap accepts either accessory.
The iX1300 illustrates why copying one list onto the other is a poor purchase method: it appears in the cited photo list but not the cited standard-sheet list. If a scanner is absent, do not infer permission from a nearby model number. Retrieve the current manual for that model and the intended accessory before paying for a pack.
Decide what kind of original you will feed
PFU warns that directly feeding photographs, apart from the SV600 exception, can damage their surface and is outside the standard-paper feeding guarantee. That warning deserves a place in the buying decision. A supported carrier accessory should not be described as a promise of damage-free or archival-safe scanning, especially for irreplaceable originals.
An illustrative household may have both ordinary folded documents and family photographs to digitise. Those originals create two accessory checks, even if they will be handled on the same desk. Resolve whether the scanner and its documented method suit each original before calculating sheet quantities. Do not treat a generic plastic sleeve as a proven replacement for a named carrier accessory.
Account for the scanner's transport method
For iX100, S1100i and S1100, the standard-sheet FAQ specifies that the output guide be closed. It also explains that a folded document larger than A4 needs two scans on these simplex models. This is a documented workflow distinction to consider before buying a sheet for larger paper; it does not establish the complete procedure for every scanner.
Keep software and manual scope visible as well. The part-number help reviewed here explicitly concerns ScanSnap Home 2.xx. A newer scanner or software version needs its current workflow instructions. The accessory name alone cannot establish which controls or feeding sequence will appear on a different installation.
Read part numbers and quantities together
The cited help identifies PA03360-0013 as a pack of five Carrier Sheets and PA03770-0015 as three Photo Carrier Sheets. Compare the full reference and selected pack count, not just a listing image containing several sheet types. These examples identify accessories; they are not promises about current local stock, longevity or a fixed replacement interval.
For US or European buying, confirm the regional offer against the manufacturer reference and your local scanner manual. Add delivered cost and return terms only after the model and original-type checks pass. No measured price advantage between the two formats is claimed here.
Finish with a record containing scanner model, original type, supported accessory, part number, pack count and applicable manual version. That is enough to make a repeat order intelligible later. It also exposes an unresolved choice early, before a visually similar sleeve arrives that lacks documented support for the documents you actually intended to scan.
Compare the trade-offs
| Accessory | Named reference | Verify separately |
|---|---|---|
| Carrier Sheets | PA03360-0013: five | Standard-sheet model list |
| Photo Carrier Sheets | PA03770-0015: three | Photograph model list |
| Workflow | Current scanner manual | Original type and software scope |
