Choose a Highlighter for the Print and Marking System

Compare line width, paper and useful colours before choosing a large assortment.

A highlighter should make a particular document easier for your own workflow, not obscure the text beneath it. The useful choice depends on print size, paper and the colour system actually maintained. Begin with a harmless sample of the material you mark, then compare the exact tip and ink information before buying a full spectrum.

Trial the document format

Use a representative page that you are permitted to mark and identify the width of the text or information being emphasised. A broad tip can suit one layout and overwhelm another. Do not mark borrowed or protected material without permission. This site has not tested smearing, fluorescence or show-through and should not promise that a highlighter is safe for every printed or handwritten ink.

Read the exact tip and ink description

STABILO's official highlighter and broader product pages distinguish models and formats, including its established highlighter families. Check the selected product's line-width information and intended surfaces directly. A chisel tip may provide more than one supported line arrangement, but the actual result still depends on use and paper. Do not assume a pastel, gel or liquid label makes the product interchangeable with every other highlighter.

Define colours before the pack

Write a small maintained key such as action, reference or review only if those distinctions serve your existing task. Colour preference is personal; it is not a measured learning or memory benefit. A large assortment can create categories that are forgotten after the first page. Compare buying one suitable colour with replacing a depleted tool already used regularly. Keep special document requirements separate from a decorative stationery choice.

Check closure and storage

Read the exact cap, refill and storage instructions, including whether a replacement system is offered for the selected model. A general brand name is insufficient for refill compatibility. Trial paper preference through an appropriate sample before a multipack and check seller return conditions. Skip the purchase when an existing suitable pencil, note or marker already serves the document task. If buying, verify tip, colour and pack count, retain product information and choose the smallest useful assortment rather than a basket built around unused colour variety.
